Let's look inward for success

Í vikunni blæs Festa – miðstöð um sjálfbærni til tíundu Janúarráðstefnu félagsins, og yfirskriftin í ár er Lítum inn á við.

Á Janúarráðstefnu Festu, sem er stærsti árlegi sjálfbærniviðburður á Íslandi, kynnum við það helsta sem er í brennidepli í heimi sjálfbærni. Í ár kynnumst við því hvernig íslenski verkfræðingurinn og frumkvöðullinn, Friðrik R. Jónsson, vinnur að lausnum gegn stærstu áskorunum samtímans, ráðherra nýsköpunar segir frá nýjum áherslum í átt að sjálfbærni, Dóra Jóhanns talar hugmyndir fram í dagsljósið og forseti Ungra umhverfissinna tekur púlsinn á íslensku atvinnulífi. Í stórum dráttum kynnum við strauma og stefnur á sviði nýsköpunar og hugvits annars vegar, og hins vegar þær lagabreytingar og auknar kröfur um sjálfbærniupplýsingagjöf til fyrirtækja af öllum stærðum sem eru í farvatninu á Íslandi. Markmiðið er að undirbúa íslenskt atvinnulíf sem allra best fyrir þær áskoranir og tækifæri sem liggja fyrir.



Three lenses distinguish the essence from the chaff Three discussion rooms will be offered in the program. They are designed as a powerful introduction to each topic individually and a productive and instructive conversation between experts and managers in all areas of Icelandic business life. The discussions are led by our leading people in each field, who have spent the past months preparing the material in working meetings with dozens of people from Festa's community and related parties. The result will be knowledge of the breadth as well as the depth, and we will leave the experience and knowledge richer.

There are three discussion rooms and the question is, which appeals to you the most?

Laws and regulations The names and acronyms of new laws can be overwhelming: EU Taxonomy, SFDR, CSRD and so on. We're going to simplify this.

The purpose of the law is to prevent greenwashing, promote sustainable and responsible investments, increase transparency and encourage capital to support the three pillars of sustainability: environment, social aspects and governance.

Í umræðustofunni rekjum við áhrif þessara breytinga á lítil, meðalstór og stór fyrirtæki og á degi ráðstefnunnar gefur Festa út yfirgripsmikinn og hnitmiðaðan vegvísi um þessar reglugerðir. Umræðustofan er leidd af Tómasi N. Möller, yfirlögfræðingi hjá Lífeyrissjóði verzlunarmanna og formanni Festu.

"We are going to focus on European legislation, and that legislation applies to us in this country because it will be part of the EEA agreement. We try to look at how the legislation connects companies in the real economy: production and service companies and financial companies: investors, pension funds, banks, insurance companies, investment funds and others. This is all based on the European Union's massive plan from 2018 and this so-called "Green deal" from 2019." Tómas N Möller. The EU's Green Deal aims to make the European Union's economy sustainable.

Tómas will be joined by Vilhjálmur Þór Svansson, chief legal officer of Creditinfo hf., Kristbjörg M Kristinsdóttir, financial director of Stefnis hf. and the chairman of IcelandSIF, Þorsteinn Kári Jónsson, director of sustainability and community relations at Marel and Sigríður Ósk Bjarnadóttir, manager of environmental affairs at Hornstein.

Sustainability information There are no minor changes facing companies when it comes to communicating information about sustainability in operations. What information must be disclosed and how is it best to disclose it so that it complies with laws and regulations and is beneficial to stakeholders?

Fyrirtæki af öllum stærðargráðum bera hag af því að huga að því hvernig þau miðla sjálfbærniupplýsingum til þess að tryggja sér góð viðskipti og samkeppnisstöðu og gæta þess að þau verði ekki uppvís af grænþvotti. Sjálfbærniupplýsingagjöfin er ekki markmið í sjálfu sér, heldur hugsuð sem samanburðarhæf og trúverðug frásögn um að rekstur sé í raun sjálfbær.

Aðalheiður Snæbjarnardóttir, head of sustainability at Landsbank and vice-chairman of Festa, who will lead the discussion room.

„Þessi umræðustofa er hugsuð sem eins einföld mynd og mögulega er hægt fyrir fyrirtæki sem standa frammi fyrir því að vilja miðla sjálfbærniupplýsingum en vita ekki hvar þau eiga að byrja, eða hvað þau eiga yfir höfuð að gera og við vitum náttúrulega alveg öll hvernig þessi skammstöfunarsúpuheimur lítur út, endalaust mikið af viðmiðum – hvað á að gera, hver á að gera hvað, hvernig á að miðla þessu. Í þessari umræðustofu ætlum við að leysa þetta.“ Aðalheiður Snæbjarnardóttir

Með Aðalheiði verða Reynir Smári Atlason, forstöðumaður sjálfbærnimála hjá Creditinfo, Jóhanna Hlín Auðunsdóttir, forstöðumaður loftslags og grænna lausna hjá Landsvirkjun, Sveinn Margeirsson, framkvæmdastjóri nýsköpunar og loftslagsmála hjá Brim og Andri Guðmundsson, meðstofnandi Vaxa.

Sustainable innovation and the circular economy Margrét Ormslev, discussion leader of the forum on sustainable innovation and the circular economy summarizes its purpose well:

"Resources are not unlimited on Earth. We need to find ways to use them better to maintain and increase the quality of life as well as protect the diversity of ecosystems. What I've seen over the years is that the private sector is ready to run: lots of people, lots of companies, cool ideas, and everyone wants to work together on some sort of solution. We actually need to blow this out a bit... Where is the uncertainty? What is going on now and where are the opportunities in Iceland? I hope everyone in the room can stand up and share if they have any ideas in their stomachs and where we can put these things.''

Margrét is the chairperson of Tèknissetur and head of operations at Transition Labs, which is based on finding excellent foreign climate projects, helps to get them off the ground in Iceland and makes it easier for them to scale the companies up to a viable size.
